The company Erfurt & Sohn KG is a paper factory , which specializes in the production of paintable wall coverings. The company premises are located in the Wupper valley in the east of the city of Wuppertal in the Langerfeld-Beyenburg district and in the south of the city of Schwelm on both sides of the river, which forms the border between the two cities.
history
In 1827 the company founder Friedrich Erfurt received the concession to build a paper mill. He founded a paper mill in the Wupper valley , using the water of the river to power the mill and to bleach the paper products. His grandson, the trained pharmacist Hugo Erfurt , inherited the factory from his father Heinrich Erfurt. In 1864 he developed a "paper for shop window design" and a "base paper for glue printing wallpaper", which later found worldwide distribution as rough (h) fiber .

The product range includes, in particular , woodchip , non-woven , embossed paper and digitally printed wallpapers , as well as wall stickers and products with additional functional benefits (e.g. facade renovation, interior wall insulation, protection against electromagnetic pollution). The Erfurt woodchip product is known nationwide, not least for its perimeter advertising in football stadiums .
The company is traditionally committed to protecting the environment. The family company, at that time under the management of Wilhelm Erfurt , has been managed by the environmental management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001 since 1996 . This also includes a conscious handling of the resources water , wood , energy and air, which are particularly important for wallpaper production . For example, the majority of the raw materials to be processed in woodchip production consists of waste paper , cellulose and wood chips .
