Erhard Christiani (born January 8, 1939 in Paderborn ; † March 19, 2017 in Salzkotten ) was a German artist and architect .

Life

Christiani was born in Paderborn as one of four children. His parents' house was within the old imperial palace below the cathedral. After an apprenticeship as an electrician, he first began studying physics in Munich, but soon moved to Kassel and studied painting, sculpture and then architecture at the University of Fine Arts . He was a student of documenta founder Arnold Bode and worked for him for years. He curated exhibitions, set up museums and exhibited his own works at home and abroad.

From 1958 he worked intensively with plastic and sculpture. The individual distinguishing feature of the work is the material Plexiglas in combination with electrical and electronic components. After setting up a residential and studio house in Scharmede, he increasingly devoted himself to architecture and museum design. In 2002 he acquired the listed Dreckburg Castle in Salzkotten , which he restored over several years and made accessible to the public. In 2004 he moved his studio, office and living space from Scharmede to the Dreckburg. Through his commitment to the Dreckburg, he awakened the building from its slumber and revitalized the estate area.
