Erhard Friedrich von Wedel-Jarlsberg
Erhard Friedrich von Wedel-Jarlsberg (born November 26, 1668 , † July 24, 1740 in Evenburg near Leer (East Friesland) ) was a Danish general and supreme commandant of Oldenburg and commanding general in Norway . He is the founder of the Wedel-Evenburg-Gödens line, the East Frisian line of the Wedel family .
His parents were the Danish field marshal Gustav Wilhelm von Wedel (1641-1717) and his wife Freiin Marie von Ehrenreuter (1633-1702).
Life
He was initially in French service and came on April 2, 1692 as a lieutenant colonel in the Jutland Regiment Wedel . He received permission to go abroad and a passport for it on April 2, 1692. On November 4, 1693 he was appointed Colonel and Chief of the Oldenburg Regiment on Foot. When the regiment was sent to Hungary to support the emperor, Wedel went with them.
After his return he was on September 11, 1699 in command of Oldenburg and on May 14, 1701 chief of the Queen's body regiment. In 1708 he gave up the commandant position. On August 5, 1703 he was promoted to brigadier and on June 25, 1708 he became chief of the 1st Danish Regiment, which came into imperial service and fought in Hungary. But on August 30, 1709 he left the imperial service and on October 11, 1709 was appointed Supreme Commander of Oldenburg. On April 15, 1711 he was promoted to lieutenant general . Shortly afterwards on January 26th, 1712 he was awarded the Danebrogorden and received the motto Il ya force en la Foi et en la justice . During the Danish campaign against the Swedish possessions of Verden and Bremen, he took part in the siege of Stade . He also fought in the siege of Stralsund in 1715 .
On January 7, 1716 he was still General en Chef and thus Commanding General in Norway and on February 7, 1716 also Danish privy councilor. However, his attempt to repair the Danish fortresses in Norway failed and therefore asked for his departure. On May 30, 1718 he received his farewell.
He died in his native East Friesland on the Evenburg in 1740 .

He married Freiin Maria von Frydag on October 21, 1703 (* February 6, 1684; † October 2, 1727). The couple had the following children:
