Erhard von Wedel-Friis

Erhard von Wedel-Friis (* July 22, 1710 , † November 10, 1786 in Frijsenborg ) was a royal Danish lieutenant general , diplomat and bearer of the Elephant Order .

His parents were Erhard Friedrich von Wedel-Jarlsberg (1668-1740) and his wife Marie Juliane von Frydag (1684-1727).

Life

He became second lieutenant in the Jewish Infantry Regiment on June 10, 1721 . On October 28, 1733 he was employed in the satellite guard with the character of a Rittmeister . The following year, on March 12, 1734, he became a staff cavalry officer in the Friis Regiment, and on May 11, 1734, he became a real Rittmeister . On June 12, 1744 he became major and on December 14, 1744 also Danish chamberlain. On September 4, 1747 he was appointed colonel and chief of the Oldenburg cavalry regiment. On September 4, 1752 he received the Danebrogorden with the motto sedulo er feliciter . On March 31, 1753 he was knighted Ordre de l'union parfaite . On February 12, 1755 he was appointed major general (with a patent from March 3, 1755), and on October 16, 1760 he was appointed lieutenant general.

From 1753 to 1754 he was the Danish envoy to the Swedish court in Stockholm . He was then from 1755 to 1763 envoy to the French court in Paris . From 1762 to 1763 he was also head stable master. On January 29, 1766 was also a secret conference council. In 1768 he was then still Lord Chamberlain. For his services he was awarded the Elephant Order on January 29, 1774.

In 1743 he married Countess Christina Sophie von Friis-Friisenborg (* 1713; † October 5, 1787), the eldest daughter of Christian von Friis zu Friisenborg (* January 28, 1691; † June 23, 1763) and Öllegard Gersdorf ( * 1687; † July 13, 1734). His wife became the Dame de l'Union parfaite on March 31, 1752 . Through the marriage, the count received the county of Frijsenborg and on April 13, 1743 the count was confirmed under the name Wedel-Friis .
