Erhard Quack

Erhard Quack (born January 4, 1904 in Trippstadt , † December 29, 1983 in Speyer ) was a German hymn poet and composer .

Life

Quack studied music in Mannheim and Karlsruhe until 1935. He had been organist in Schifferstadt since 1931 , and in 1941 he became cathedral music director in Speyer. He was also a teacher at an adult education center and is considered one of the church musicians who decisively shaped German liturgical singing.

Until 1969 he headed the Episcopal Church Music Institute in Speyer , which he founded.

From 1952 to 1957 he was editor and until 1972 editor of the magazine Musik und Altar . He was one of the founders of Universa Laus , an international study group for singing and music. Quack also wrote some songs for the Catholic hymn book Praise God and set numerous congregational verses to music for antiphonal chants that were taken over in Praise of God.
