Feast of the lifting of heaven

The festival of " raising the heavens by Ptah " ( ancient Egyptian Heb ach-pet ) has been documented since the New Kingdom and was called the " creation festival" on the first day of the lunar month of Peret II ( Schef-bedet ) in Memphis one month before the " raising of heaven for Amun ”.

In the festival calendar of Dendera the festival had the name expanded with an epithet "Feast of the lifting of the sky by Ptah on the side of Herischef , the Lord of Herakleopolis " and was scheduled for the first lunar day of Peret III ( Pa-en-Amenhotep ). Here, too, the act of creation was festively repeated by Ptah, with particular reference to the place of worship of the deity Herischef in Herakleopolis.

In Esna , the local Khnum festival " Setting the potter's wheel " took place at the same time as the festivals "Raising Heaven for Amun" and "Lifting Heaven by Ptah at the side of the Herischef, Lord of Herakleopolis" . Reasons for this are to be seen in the special meaning of the Khnum in Esna, who was worshiped there as the creator god.
