Éric Lucas (born May 29, 1971 in Montreal , Canada ) is a former Canadian professional boxer .
Professional career
Éric Lucas made his debut fight in December 1991 against Errol Brown. In 1995 he lost in his 20th professional fight against the American Bryant Brannon and then temporarily moved to the light heavyweight division. There he competed in January 1996 against the French WBC world champion Fabrice Tiozzo , but lost on points. Back in the super middleweight division, he received the next title fight against IBF world champion Roy Jones junior in June 1996 , but failed again.
In December 1999, Lucas competed in an elimination match of the WBC federation against the British Glenn Catley and was defeated by technical knockout in the twelfth round. Nevertheless, 1.5 years later - in the meantime he had only fought one fight - he was allowed to box in a rematch against Catley for the vacant WBC title. Lucas won in this clash on July 10, 2001 in his hometown of Montreal by knockout in the seventh round of the WBC World Super Middleweight Championship.
After three successful title defenses, including against Omar Sheika , Éric Lucas had to admit defeat to Markus Beyer in Leipzig in April 2003 . After Beyer was injured in the fight against Danny Green in August of the same year and had to take a longer break, Lucas got another title chance. However, he lost the fight for the interim title of the WBC against the Australian Green in December 2003 in the sixth round due to a technical knockout. After this defeat, Eric Lucas retired from boxing for almost a year. After two wins and winning the WBC Continental title, he boxed for the WBA title against Mikkel Kessler . The fight ended in defeat for the Canadian. He then ended his career initially, but returned to the ring in December 2009 after almost four years of inactivity. On May 28, 2010, Lucas lost to the Mexican Librado Andrade and then finally resigned from active boxing.
