Eric P. Schmitt

Eric P. Schmitt (born November 2, 1959 in Minneapolis ) is an American journalist .

Schmitt grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and studied political science at Williams College with a year abroad at the Instituto Internacional in Madrid . After completing his BA in 1982, Schmitt initially worked as a reporter for the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick , Washington, before moving to the New York Times in 1983 , where he initially worked for James Reston . In 1990 Schmitt was named Pentagon Correspondent for the Times .

As part of a team, Schmitt has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize twice.

In the 2006/07 academic year, Schmitt was on a Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University .
