Eric Schlosser (born August 17, 1959 in New York City , New York , USA ) is an American journalist and author . In Germany he became famous for his book Fast Food Nation .

Life

Schlosser grew up in New York City and Los Angeles . His father Herbert Schlosser was an attorney and president of NBC (1974–1978). Eric Schlosser studied American history at Princeton . Today Schlosser lives in California with his wife Shauna, daughter of actor Robert Redford . The couple have two children.

journalism

Schlosser began his career as a journalist at The Atlantic Monthly in Boston , Massachusetts . With his investigative articles, Schlosser won several awards and quickly became famous. He has also published other articles in the New York Times , The New Yorker , The Nation , and Vanity Fair .

Books

Schlosser has published two dramas so far: Americans (1985), which thematizes American imperialism at the beginning of the 20th century, and We The People (2007), which deals with the events surrounding the creation of the US Constitution . Schlosser gained particular fame through his book Fast Food Nation . In it he describes the unhealthy, unsanitary and discriminatory practices in the fast food industry. When the book was made into a film (2006), Schlosser worked as a co- screenwriter and executive producer . In his book Reefer Madness (2003), Schlosser documents the illegal trade in marijuana , illegal employment of illegal immigrants and the American porn industry. In 2006, together with Charles Wilson, Schlosser published the book Chew on This! . His book on the US nuclear arsenal, Command & Control , was published in 2013. In 2015, his book Gods of Metal was published by Penguin Books .

Schlosser has been working on a book about the American prison system for over ten years.

Movies

Schlosser was executive producer on Paul Thomas Anderson's film There Will Be Blood . An interview with Schlosser can be seen on the DVD of the film Super Size Me . He didn't want to appear in the film itself.
