Career

society

Eric Smith, whose father Anders was also a professional soccer player, started playing soccer at the age of five in the youth teams of Halmstads BK and was promoted to the first team for the 2014 season. His first appearance in a competitive game was on March 9, 2014 in the Swedish Cup against IK Sirius FK, and on April 28, 2014 Eric Smith played for the first time in the Allsvenskan against Elfsborg . At the time he was 17 years old. He scored his first goal in the league for Halmstads BK on August 2, 2014, when he scored the 2-1 winner in the away game against Örebro SK . While he had only nine appearances in his first season, Smith played more regularly in his second season.

In January 2016 he moved to IFK Norrköping and signed a four-year contract. Also due to heart problems and a groin injury, Eric Smith only played in the league on July 9, 2016 in the away game against Djurgårdens IF for the first time for his new club, having previously played for IFK in the Swedish Cup against AFC Eskilstuna on February 27, 2016 Norrköping celebrated. In two and a half years Smith completed 61 competitive games in which he remained without a goal. In June 2018 he completed a trial training session at the Belgian first division club KAA Gent and later signed a four-year contract. Smith was initially unable to assert himself there, which is why he was awarded to Tromsø IL on August 29, 2019 in Norway . In northern Norway he gained match practice and came to eleven missions. Smith returned to Ghent at the turn of the year 2019/20.

Smith did not play a game for Ghent until the 2019/20 season in Belgian Division 1A was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . In mid-May 2020 there was another loan, this time to the Swedish club IFK Norrköping until the end of the season there.
