Erich A. Kägi

Erich Albert Kägi (born August 14, 1921 in Winterthur ; † April 11, 2014 in Uster ) was a Swiss journalist and publicist .

biography

Kägi was born in Winterthur in 1921 as the son of a machine technician and his wife. He attended the cantonal grammar school in his hometown until he graduated from high school (type A) in 1940. He then studied at the Philosophical Faculty I of the University of Zurich and in 1948 obtained a diploma for the higher teaching post for history and geography. In 1950 he was with the dissertation The financial situation of the Canton of Zurich in the regeneration time paying particular attention to financial reform 1831-1837 to Dr. phil. PhD. The work was included in the series Economy, Society, State published by Marcel Beck and Max Silberschmidt in 1954 and was positively discussed. As early as 1948, he joined the domestic editorial team of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung as a trainee . In 1949 he became an assistant editor, from 1956 to 1986 he was an editor there. His focus was on military and educational policy as well as time issues. Kägi's successor was Bruno Lezzi .

He was a militia officer in the infantry, temporarily assigned to the army staff. He also published in the General Swiss Military Journal . He was also a member of the Military Committee of the FDP Switzerland and the Swiss UNESCO Commission.

Kägi was widowed and last lived in Stäfa on Lake Zurich , where he was a member of the Evangelical Reformed parish .
