Erich B. Kusch
Erich B. Kusch (born September 27, 1930 in Trieste , † February 22, 2010 in Würzburg ) was a German journalist .
Life
Kusch, the son of a German and an Italian, grew up in Koblenz and studied German, art history and economic policy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the University of Florence from 1949 to 1955 .
In 1955 he became parliamentary correspondent for Dieter von König's press office in Bonn, and later a correspondent for various newspapers in Rome, including Rheinische Merkur . In 1956 he reported on the Suez crisis in Egypt, as well as the 1958 Lebanon crisis between Lebanon and Egypt.
At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, he was Olympic Attaché of the last all-German Olympic team. In 1961 he was the first German at the South Pole, accompanied by an American Antarctic expedition . From 1964 to 1995 he was Italy correspondent for Südwestfunk and several daily newspapers such as the Handelsblatt and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . In 1992 he was head of the ARD studio in Rome and played a key role in setting up the ARD radio studio in Rome.
From 1989 to 1996 Kusch was president of the "Stampa Estera", the association of the foreign press in Italy. He was a founding member and from 1994 president of the German-Italian cultural center Villa Vigoni .
He accompanied the Popes Pius XII. , John XXIII. , Paul VI. , John Paul I , John Paul II and Benedict XVI. on trips abroad. In 2000, on behalf of the Holy See , Kush was director of the press center of the Agenzia Romana Per La Preparazione Del Giubileo in the Holy Year .
In 2002, together with other journalists, he wrote the meditation texts on the traditional papal way of the cross on Good Friday in the Colosseum .
Ernst B. Kusch was buried on February 27, 2010 on the Campo Santo Teutonico in Rome. Kusch was married and had five children.
