Erich Mach

Erich Mach (born April 18, 1915 in Goßlershausen ; † December 20, 2006 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and also worked for the Diakonie .

Life

Mach trained as a welfare worker, deacon and teacher of religion. After working for the Evangelical Johannesstift in Berlin-Spandau from 1936 to 1939 , he was a soldier in World War II , and in 1944 the Americans took him prisoner. After his release in 1946, he became the state deacon for Protestant youth work in Berlin. He was a co-founder of the Berlin State Youth Association and its chairman until 1951, later a member of the Federal Youth Association and co-founder of the Albert Schweitzer Children's Village . In 1965 he was appointed department director of what was then Diakonisches Werk Berlin in the field of youth affairs, a position he held until his retirement in 1975. From 1965 to 1983 Mach was a member of the board of trustees of the Fürst Donnersmarck Foundation . In his retirement he was active in many other areas on a voluntary basis.

From 1955 to 1965 Mach was the district councilor for youth and sport in Steglitz . From 1967 to 1971 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives and chaired the youth committee there.
