Erich Neubert

Erich Neubert (born January 26, 1896 in Chemnitz , † March 20, 1970 in Munich ) was a German illustrator of children's, fairy tale and picture books, caricaturist , draftsman and painter .

Life

Erich Neubert was born in Chemnitz as the son of Johann Gottlieb Neubert (born 1811), Müller in the Sternmühltal. Erich Neubert became a teacher. He was married to Margarete Eisold. The couple had a daughter. Until 1945 Neubert worked as a teacher at the orphanage school in Chemnitz.

At the beginning of the 1920s he was published by H. Thümmlers Verlag in Chemnitz, who u. a. Thümmlers Erzgebirgs-Bücher published, commissioned with the illustration of numerous classic editions and selected volumes. The Erzgebirge books are z. T. illustrated by Erich Neubert. Neubert also created numerous works of his own, especially fairy tale books, and designed calendars and games. His tear-off advent calendars are still being printed today, each with a Christmas story in 24 pictures. He also designed other advent calendars, e.g. B. an advent calendar with wish list. Until 1945 he also drew caricatures and milieu pictures for the Sunday supplement of the Chemnitzer Tageblatt.

After the Second World War, Chemnitz was renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt. At that time Erich Neubert painted for the “Verlag Erhard Neubert in Karl Marx Stadt”, Lindenstrasse 2, among other things fairy tale calendars and quartet plays. Numerous postcards were created during this time, e. B. with the figure of Mecki . His tear-off Advent calendars, however, were a thorn in the side of the GDR authorities: “Erich Neubert's calendars, such as 'Christmas Workshop' (1958), 'Snowflake Christmas Journey' (1959) or 'Teddy's Christmas Journey' (1960) did not correspond to the ideas of the modern socialist children's calendar. "

In 1961 Erich Neubert moved to Munich, where he died on March 20, 1970.
