Erich Ruppel

Erich Ruppel (born January 25, 1903 in Elberfeld ; † July 7, 1975 in Hanover ) was a German church administrative lawyer , legally qualified Vice President of the Hanover Regional Church Office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover , member of the church leadership and chairman of the planning committee of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church Germany (VELKD). He was regarded as one of the best experts on state church law in the area of ​​the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).

Life

Ruppel entered the church service soon after completing his studies and doctorate in 1929, and in 1933 became consistorial advisor at the Federal Church Office, later in the church chancellery in the German Evangelical Church in Berlin. In 1935 he was Ministerialrat in the Reich Ministry for Church Affairs, from 1938 Oberregierungsrat. In 1939 he began his military service. In 1947 he became a consultant in the office of the Hanoverian regional bishop Hanns Lilje . In 1949 he resigned as Senior Church in the Landeskirchenamt one whose full member (country of Churches), he was in 1952. In 1957 he was appointed legal conductor and in 1965 legally qualified vice-president. He retired on February 1, 1968. Until 1972 he was a member of the church senate of the Hanover regional church. He earned services, among other things, for the establishment of the Evangelical Academy in Hermannsburg (later Loccum), for the pastoral college and the religious education institute in Loccum.

Erich Ruppel headed the office of the Lower Saxony Church Conference before the Lower Saxony regional churches united to form a confederation. During this time he was instrumental in bringing about the Loccum Treaty between the Protestant churches and the state of Lower Saxony.

From 1953 to 1971 he managed the assets, buildings and properties of the monastery as conventual of the Loccum monastery. In 1950 he became a member (later an honorary member) of the Henrietten Foundation committee in Hanover. From 1956 to 1972 he was deputy chairman and chairman of the finance commission.

Erich-Ruppel-Strasse in Wunstorf is named after him.
