Erich Windbichler
Erich Windbichler (born September 15, 1904 in Salzburg ; † lost in World War II , 1963 death declaration ) was an Austrian painter and sculptor .
Life
Windbichlers was born in 1904 as the son of the head of the official news agency in Salzburg. He attended high school in his hometown and was a member of the Freikorps from 1917 . In 1923 he began training in a ceramics workshop and then studied at the State University of Fine Arts in Weimar . From 1924 to 1927 he studied painting at the Vienna School of Applied Arts . His pictures were first exhibited in Narvik in 1928 . After studying for another four semesters in Weimar, he was made a master class student in 1930 . At the urging of his patron Anna Hilaria Preuss , he moved to Eisenach in 1932 , where he worked until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1944. He was considered missing from 1944 and was pronounced dead in 1963.
Act
Windbichler mainly painted watercolors . Between 1928 and 1931 he spent a total of a year in Norway , where he created a series of landscapes of Lofoten . In addition, he painted portraits of family members, still lifes , landscapes of his adopted home Thuringia and nudes . His best-known work as a sculptor is an armored rider figure of St. George .
In 1931 he received the Golden State Medal from the Ministry of Education in Vienna for his work "Head of an Industrial Worker". Between 1937 and 1944 his pictures were shown in several exhibitions in Eisenach. In 1993 a special exhibition was held in his honor in the Thuringian Museum .
