Erik Himle (born April 10, 1924 in Fana , Bergen , Hordaland ; † July 30, 2008 ) was a Norwegian ministerial official and politician of the Arbeiderpartiet , who between 1963 and 1964 was Minister for Trade and Shipping and then from 1964 to 1965 Minister for Transport and communication was in the Gerhardsen IV government .

Life

Himle, son of the inspector Anders Himle and the housewife Maria Lofthus, began studying economics in 1944 , which he completed in 1948 as candidatus oeconomices (Cand. Oecon.). He then entered government service and was initially secretary in the Ministry of Commerce between 1948 and 1949. He then worked as a secretary at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Washington, DC in 1950, before he was first secretary and then advisor at the Department of Commerce on his return in 1950. Between 1952 and 1955 he was office manager (Byråsjef) and then from 1956 to 1958 department head (Ekspedisjonssjef) in the Ministry of Defense. During this time he graduated from the NATO Defense College in Rome in 1957 .

Himle then became State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense on July 1, 1958, and held this position until February 18, 1961. In 1961 he acted as Forsvarsråd for a few months and was thus the highest official in the Ministry of Defense. From January 1, 1962 to August 28, 1963, he held the post of State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

On September 25, 1963, Himle was appointed by Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen as Minister for Trade and Shipping (Handels- og skipsfartsminister) in his fourth government and held this office until a government reshuffle on January 20, 1964. He then succeeded Trygve Bratteli as Minister for Transport and Communication (Samferdselsminister) , while Trygve Lie succeeded him as Minister for Trade and Shipping. He retained the office of Minister for Transport and Communications until the end of Gerhardsen's term of office on October 12, 1965. He was then secretary of the Ap parliamentary group in Storting from 1965 to 1966, secretary of the government's finance committee for some time in 1966 and then of 1967 to 1967 as Departementsråd again senior official in the Ministry of Defense.

During the first government of Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli, he held the post of State Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office between April 19, 1971 and October 18, 1972. In 1973 he moved again to the Ministry of Defense as Departementsråd and held this position as senior ministerial official from 1978 to 1988 in the Ministry of Oil and Energy . In 1985, Himle became commander of the Order of Saint Olav for his services . He then stayed between 1988 and 1991 as Departementsråd with special tasks in the Ministry of Oil and Energy. After leaving the ministerial service, the defense expert held the post of chairman of the committee for the reorganization of Heimevernet , the reserve force of the Norwegian armed forces, from 1992 to 1994 . He then became involved between 1997 and 1999 as chairman of the Arbeiderpartiet of Holmen , a district of Oslo .
