Government of Gerhardsen IV

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gerhardsen IV government was formed in Norway on September 25, 1963 by Einar Gerhardsen and existed until October 12, 1965. As Prime Minister, Gerhardsen replaced the government of John Lyng from the conservative Høyre .

He had replaced Gerhardsen's third government just a month earlier , after the two MPs from Sosialistisk Folkeparti (SF), Finn Gustavsen and Asbjørn Holm , who “tipped the scales” in favor of the Labor Party after the parliamentary elections on September 11, 1961 after the so-called Kings Bay affair about deficiencies in the state coal mining company Kings Bay had withdrawn support from the Gerhardsen government. Then Gerhardsen resigned on August 28, 1963 after eight years in office. The coalition led by Lyng broke up after less than four weeks on September 25, 1963, so that Gerhardsen was then able to form his fourth government.

In the parliamentary elections on September 13, 1965 , Gerhardsen's Arbeiderpartiet suffered another defeat and only received 43.1 percent (1961: 46.8 percent) and 68 seats (1961: 74). Then, on October 12, 1965, Per Borten from the Senterpartiet formed a coalition government with the participation of Høyre (H), Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF) and Venstre (V).
