Erik Shoji (born August 24, 1989 in Honolulu ) is an American volleyball player .

Career

Shoji began his volleyball career at Punahou High School in his hometown. His father coached the University of Hawaii women's team and his sister managed the Stanford University women's team . Since 2008 he also played in California at Stanford University, where he was at times on the field with his brother Kawika . He played in the US youth and junior national team and has been part of the senior team since 2011 . In 2012 the Libero switched to the German Bundesliga club Chemie Volley Mitteldeutschland . With the club from Spergau he came seventh in the 2012/13 season in the pre-play-offs and was defeated by VC Dresden . In the 2013/14 season he played for the Austrian first division club Hypo Tirol Innsbruck , with whom he won the Austrian Cup and the championship. He then returned to Germany and played together with his brother Kawika Shoji in the Bundesliga at the Berlin Recycling Volleys , with which he became German champion in 2016 and won the DVV Cup and the CEV Cup. With the national team he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Then Shoji moved to Russia to VK Lokomotiv Novosibirsk .
