Erik van der Luijt (* 22. August 1970 in The Hague ) is a Dutch jazz - composer , pianist , producer , arranger and bandleader .

biography

Erik van der Luijt studied jazz - piano with Rob van Kreeveld and Rob van Bavel at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague , where he played in master classes with Michael Petrucciani and Barry Harris.

His concert tours have taken him to Denmark , Sweden , Germany , Belgium , France , Great Britain and Indonesia . In 1998 he married the Dutch jazz singer Ilse Huizinga , whom he accompanies as arranger, producer and pianist in television appearances, albums and concerts. Her album The Sweetest Sounds (2004) was nominated for an Edison .

In addition to working with Huizinga, Erik van der Luijt also worked with Rita Reys , Madeline Bell , Marjol Flore, Joke de Kruijf, Pia Beck, Gerrie van der Klei, Denise Jannah, Greetje Kauffeld , Heddy Lester, Ferdinand Povel , Piet Noordijk , Ruud Jacobs , Frits Landesbergen , Bernard Berkhout's Swingmates and countless other well-known Dutch artists, worked on countless musicals and albums as well as with international orchestras such as the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Metropole Orkest , the Dutch Swing College Band , The Ramblers and the Koninklijke Militaire Kapel.

The successful 2004 album Express Yourself was composed entirely by Erik van der Luijt.

In 2005 Erik van der Luijt formed a new band called Vegas that played his music.
