Church of the Redeemer (Chur)
The Erlöserkirche (so common; actually parish church of the Most Holy Redeemer ) is a Roman Catholic church in the Grisons capital Chur . It is located in the Rhine district in the Toedistrasse 10 . The church is one of the four houses of worship of the Catholic parish of Chur with the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption , St. Lucius Church and the Holy Cross Church . It was the first Roman Catholic church to be built in Chur after the Reformation was adopted in the city in the 16th century.
history
The church was built in 1934 by the local architect Walter Sulser . The building was inaugurated on September 29, 1935 by Chur Bishop Laurenz Matthias Vincenz . The construction bill amounted to 414,823 Swiss francs and brought the parish into financial difficulties in the wake of the current global economic crisis .
In 1993–95 the building was expanded while retaining the style and design of the Wilhelminian era and provided with a gravel forecourt.
Furnishing
The largely unadorned and unambiguous building aims to give evidence of everyday architecture and is attributed to the conservative modernism of the interwar period.
The interior of the church shows an almost square choir with only a people's and no high altar . It is raised in four steps towards the nave and closed flat by a strip ceiling.
The 34 meter high tower is made of reinforced concrete and is adjacent to the choir in the west. In its Glockenstube four bells are mounted (in decreasing order of size): the redeemer bell which Marie bell , the Antonius bell and the guardian angel bell .
