Erland is an old German male given name from the era "honor, reputation" and lant "country". The name has been common in Scandinavia since the Middle Ages ; either as a borrowing from German or as an independent education to the Old Norse erlandr ("foreign").

Today the name is mainly used in Sweden and Denmark , the name day is January 8th.
