Erland Erdmann

Erland Erdmann (born September 3, 1944 in Cammin , Pomerania ) is a German emeritus for cardiology.

Life

Erdmann studied medicine at Oxford University and Georg-August University in Göttingen . At the end of 1970 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. After having held various assistant doctor positions, he completed his habilitation in 1979. In 1984 he was appointed professor of internal medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1993 he was appointed to the chair for internal medicine with a focus on cardiology , angiology , pulmonology and internal intensive care medicine at the University of Cologne . In 1995 he founded the Heart Center of the University of Cologne in collaboration with the Clinic for Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery and the Department of Pediatric Cardiology and, in 1997, initiated the establishment of a support association. The new building was officially inaugurated on October 9, 2007. In 2012 he retired. He dedicated his farewell lecture on September 28, 2012 to the topic of The Incredible Thomas in Cardiology .

Erdmann is a member of numerous domestic and foreign specialist societies (in 1986 he was elected an International Fellow of the American Heart Association, since 1988 he has been a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, since 1994 a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology). He is also the author of textbooks (including the 8th edition of Clinical Cardiology published by Springer Verlag ) and co-editor of several specialist journals in internal medicine and cardiology. Erdmann is a member of the editorial team of the German Medical Weekly .

From 1997 to 2001 Erdmann was Vice Rector for Research and Young Scientists at the University of Cologne and from 2000 to 2009 he was a member of the Standing Commission for Research and Young Scientists at the University Rectors' Conference . Erdmann is chairman of the Hufeland Prize Foundation and the Galenus von Pergamon Prize Foundation . Since 2006 he has been president of the official graduate network KölnAlumni at the University of Cologne. Since 2010 he has been President of the Walter Siegenthaler Society for Advances in Internal Medicine . Erdmann has been editor of the journal Kompakt Kardiologie at Biermann Verlag since 2012. In addition, since 2011 he has been the deputy chairman of the expert commission for medical treatment errors of the North Rhine Medical Association.
