Ernő Poeltenberg

Ernst Pöltenberg (Hungarian: Ernő Poeltenberg , born February 20, 1808 in Vienna , † October 6, 1849 in Arad ) was a Hungarian revolutionary general .

The son of the lawyer Leopold Poelt von Poeltenberg came from an Austrian nobility and in 1829 became a soldier in the Austrian Imperial and Royal Army . He joined the Hungarian Honvéd as a volunteer in the revolutionary year of 1848 . In February 1849 he fought under General Dembinski as a major in the battle of Kápolna . During the First Battle of Komron he replaced General András Gáspár and was appointed commander of the Hungarian 7th Army Corps by General Görgey . He was promoted to general on June 2, 1849 and fought with his troops on June 28 in the Battle of Raab , on July 2 in the Battle of Ács and on July 11 in the Third Battle of Komorn . On August 13th, his Commander-in-Chief Görgey surrendered in Világos to the Russians under General Rüdiger , who in turn handed over the prisoners of war to the Austrians.

Pöltenberg was executed in Arad on October 6, 1849 for his role in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/49 . He is considered one of the 13 martyrs of Arad .
