Erna Emhardt , née Wuck (born July 14, 1916 in Malchin / Mecklenburg ; † May 9, 2009 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Life

After a juvenile "care marriage" she was married to Karl-Heinrich (Heiner) Emhardt until his death in 1976. a. with Max Horkheimer and Ödön von Horváth , whose family she stayed in contact with until her death. Via Horvárth she also came to Murnau , where she first came into contact with reverse glass painting.

After her first artistic experience with the design of figures from bread dough, she first turned to fabric images with predominantly biblical motifs. In this context, among other things, a Way of the Cross was created , which was acquired in the 1980s by the Hildesheim diocese for the chapel of the Hildesheim Moritzberg pastoral educational institution. However, Erna Emhardt gained fame since the 1970s mainly through her naive reverse glass paintings in oil, an art form of which she was one of the most important representatives. Here, too, a considerable part of her works are devoted to biblical motifs and have become the basis for books, calendars and postcards.

She also dedicated many works to parts of her home in Munich, such as the Chinese Tower , the Oktoberfest or the view from the window of her apartment in Schwabing to Suresnes Castle , which belongs to the Catholic Academy . Erna Emhardt had a close relationship with the Catholic Academy, which in addition to an exhibition also resulted in the acquisition of various works by the Academy and in 1989 with the award of the sign of friendship as well as in the organization of a reception for the 80th birthday, which the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation attended Portrait radiated, reflected.
