Ernest Bour (born April 20, 1913 in Diedenhofen , Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine , † June 20, 2001 in Strasbourg ) was a French conductor . During the time of National Socialism he also used the Germanized name Ernst Bour or Bur .

biography

Ernest Bour received his musical training at the Strasbourg Conservatory , which he attended between 1930 and 1933. From 1935 to 1939 he was Kapellmeister at Radio Strasbourg.

After the annexation of Alsace , Bour worked in the spirit of National Socialist propaganda as the director of the Strasbourg city orchestra, which was formed in 1940. Bour produced music for propaganda radio broadcasts, including a broadcast broadcast nationwide with "Alsatian folk music".

In 1941/42 Bour was first conductor of the Mulhouse City Theater ; in Strasbourg he was followed by Hans Rosbaud . From 1964 to 1979 Bour was again Rosbaud's successor as chief conductor of the Südwestfunk-Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden .

Bour died in Strasbourg at the age of 88.
