Ernesto Quesada (born June 1, 1858 in Buenos Aires , † February 7, 1934 in Spiez ( Switzerland )) was an Argentine lawyer, publicist, historian and linguist.

Life

From 1869 to 1872 he was an assistant at the Colegio San José . From 1873 to 1875 he traveled to Europe with his father Vicente Gaspar Quesada and studied for a short time in a grammar school in Dresden . After his return to Buenos Aires in 1875 he passed his A-levels at the Colegio Nacional. From 1878 he studied for two years in Berlin and Leipzig . In 1882 he obtained the title of Doctor of Law ( doctorado en derecho ) at the University of Buenos Aires . During this time he became interested in travel and classical languages. From 1881 to 1885 Quesada published the Revista de Buenos Aires .

In 1883 he married Eleonora Pacheco. In 1898 Quesasa wrote the book "La época de Rosas: su verdadero carácter histórico". In 1905 he accepted a teaching position at the Facultad de Filosofía y letras de la UBRA. Quesada later taught at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and at the Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales de Buenos Aires. In 1909 Quesada traveled to Europe again. In 1910 he published the experiences he had gathered under the title “La eseñanza de la historia en las universidades alemanas”. In 1911 the article “La educación social argentina” was published in the Revista Argentina de Ciencias Politicas, in 1912 the article “Los sistemas de promoción en la Universidad de Londres” was published in the Revista de la Universidad de Buenos Aires.

In 1914 Quesada met Leonore Niessen-Deiters , whom he later married. In 1916 Quesada took part in the 2nd Congreso Científoco Panamericano in Washington, DC ( USA ). In 1928, Quesada moved with his second wife Leonore Deiters Quesada to Spiez , Switzerland , where he spent the last years of his life.

He was a close friend of Spengler's.

In the year of his resettlement, he donated his 80,000-volume private library to the State of Prussia , thereby initiating the establishment of the Ibero-American Institute , which also includes his estate.
