Erno Laszlo

Erno Laszlo ( Ernő László ; * 1898 in Transylvania ; † 1973 in USA ) was a Hungarian-American doctor and founder of a new branch of cosmetic science, cosmetology . Erno Laszlo set up facial care according to the plan. His “Splashing” care ritual has been used for over 80 years.

Life

In 1921 Laszlo had obtained his doctorate from the Royal Hungarian Elizabeth University of Medicine with Soma Cornel Beck in Budapest.

In 1927 Laszlo opened the first beauty institute for scientific cosmetology in Budapest, which immediately became successful. This is where the European high society met.

Laszlo later went to New York forever . Customers of his new institute, which he founded in New York in 1939, included the Duchess and the Duke of Windsor , Gloria Laura Vanderbilt , Greta Garbo , Gary Cooper , Giovanni Agnelli , Truman Capote , Audrey Hepburn , Yul Brynner , Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe . Those who could not provide a reference were not accepted into the company of Erno Laszlo's customers. The number of members of the Erno Laszlo Club was initially limited, which gave the house exclusivity. Later Barbra Streisand , Diane Keaton , Madonna , Woody Allen , Yoko Ono , Sting , Val Kilmer and James Spader also became customers of Erno Laszlo.

In the 1940s, Rubinstein tried to do business with him, but Laszlo refused. From March 1952, customers could buy the products in 30 selected stores in the USA, but only with an Erno Laszlo membership and after a skin analysis. Within two years the membership base had risen to 25,000 and was frozen here in order not to endanger the quality of customer service. It was not until 1966 that Laszlo decided to sell its products through retailers.

Laszlo died in 1973 at the age of 75 after heart failure. Since the beginning of 2002, Erno Laszlo has been part of Cradle Holding, which also owns the Penhaligon’s brand .
