Ernst-Christoph Stolper

Ernst-Christoph Stolper (born April 10, 1960 in Duisburg ) is a German political and environmental activist as well as a former (political) official ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From May 2011 to June 2012 he was State Secretary in the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Climate Protection, Energy and State Planning for Rhineland-Palatinate . From 2016 to 2019 he was deputy chairman of the environmental organization BUND .

Life

As a student, Stolper joined the then FDP- affiliated left-wing liberal youth organization Young Democrats in the late 1970s , which, however , separated from the FDP after the change of government in 1982 and subsequently worked with the Greens. He studied political science, economics, history and sociology in Bonn and Duisburg , graduating from the University of Duisburg with a diploma in political science (focus on international politics). As a representative of the Young Democrats, Stolper was a member of the management of the coordination committee of the peace movement that organized the great peace demonstrations in Bonn in 1983 . From 1984 to 1986 he was chairman of the United German Student Unions (VDS), from 1987 to 1989 national chairman of the Young Democrats.

From 1991 to 1995, Stolper was the personal advisor to Bärbel Höhn , the then parliamentary leader of the Greens in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament . When Höhn became environment minister in the red-green state government ( cabinet Rau V ) in 1995 , she made Stolper office manager, later department head in the environment ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia . He kept this position after the changes in government in 2005 and 2010. Most recently, he headed the Climate, Energy and Environmental Management department. In May 2011, Stolper was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Climate Protection, Energy and State Planning for Rhineland-Palatinate . In June 2012, he was put into temporary retirement due to a disagreement with Minister Eveline Lemke . Successor was Uwe Hüser appointed.

Stolper has been working as an author, moderator and speaker since 2013. He is also involved in the protest movement against the Transatlantic Free Trade Agreement (TTIP) and the comprehensive EU-Canada economic and trade agreement (CETA). He was the spokesman for the European citizens' initiative “Stop TTIP” and a member of the coordination group of “ttip unfair tradable”. From 2014 he was spokesman for the international environmental policy working group at the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND). In November 2016, Stolper was elected deputy chairman of the BUND. He held this position until 2019. Since March 2019 he has been the spokesman for the steering committee of the Environment & Development Forum .
