Puerto Margarita is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Puerto Margarita is a place in the Vicecantón Chimeo in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Entre Ríos in the province of Burnet O'Connor . The place is located at an altitude of 502  m on a 200-meter-long bridge that spans the Río Pilcomayo here , just under five kilometers above the mouth of the Río Palos Blancos . The Pilcomayo leaves the mountainous region of the Cordillera de Tajsara o Tarachaca with its steep, narrow valleys; in the plain of Palos Blancos to the east, the river bed reaches a width of up to two kilometers.

Puerto Margarita is located on the edge of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental in the transition area between the Bolivian Altiplano and the sparsely populated Gran Chaco in the lowlands. The climate is subtropical and is characterized by a clear contrast between the dry season and the rainy season .

The annual total rainfall is around 900 mm (see climate diagram Puerto Margarita), the months May to September are arid with monthly rainfall of less than 25 mm, the summer months from December to March have monthly values ​​between 150 and 180 mm. Transport network

Palos Blancos is located 211 kilometers by road to the east from Tarija , the capital of the department.

From Tarija, the Ruta 1 highway , which crosses the Bolivian highlands from north to south and connects Tarija with the metropolises of El Alto , Oruro and Potosí , runs eight kilometers in a south-easterly direction. There the Route 11 branches off to the east, which leads via Junacas Sur and Entre Ríos to Palos Blancos and on via Villamontes and Ibibobo to Cañada Oruro on the border with Paraguay .
