Junacas Sur is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Junacas Sur is the central location of the canton of Junacas in the municipality of Tarija in the province of Cercado . Junacas Sur is located at an altitude of 2335  m on one of the headwaters of the Río San Agustín , which flows over the Río Santa Ana into the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir .

geography

Junacas Sur is conveniently located between the different climate zones of the country, on the edge of the Andes at an altitude of around 2300  m , so that mostly mild and pleasant weather prevails (see Tarija climate diagram). In the rainy season between December and February (summer months) there are frequent torrential thunderstorms. The rest of the year is extremely low in precipitation.

Transport network

Junacas Sur is forty kilometers by road east of Tarija , the capital of the department.

The highway Ruta 1 runs through Tarija in a north-south direction , which crosses the Bolivian highlands from north to south and leads from Desaguadero on the border with Peru via the metropolises El Alto , Oruro and Potosí to Tarija, and from there to Bermejo on the border with Argentina .

Eight kilometers southeast of the city center of Tarija, the highway Ruta 11 branches off in an easterly direction from Ruta 1 and leads via Junacas to Entre Ríos and on via Palos Blancos , Villamontes and Ibibobo to Cañada Oruro on the border with Paraguay .

In Villamontes, Ruta 11 crosses the highway Ruta 9 , which connects the Bolivian lowlands of Guayaramerín in the north via Santa Cruz with the border town of Yacuiba in the south.
