Ernst Adolf Coccius

Ernst Adolf Coccius (born September 19, 1825 in Knauthain , † November 24, 1890 in Leipzig ) was a German ophthalmologist .

Life

Ernst Adolf Coccius studied medicine in Leipzig , Prague and Paris . In 1848 he was with the work De morbis typhum sequentibus doctorate and was then at the Leipzig eye clinic as an assistant Friedrich Philipp ride Erich worked. Coccius' habilitation took place in 1851, the appointment as associate professor followed in 1857, that of full professor in 1867. From that year Coccius was director of the ophthalmic institute in Leipzig, a position he held until his death. Hubert Sattler was his successor .

Honor

Coccius was elected to the Leopoldina in 1867 . A street in Knauthain, where Coccius was born, has been named after him since 1938.
