Hubert Sattler (doctor)

Hubert Sattler (born  September 9, 1844 in Salzburg , †  November 15, 1928 in Leipzig ) was an Austrian ophthalmologist . He worked as a professor of ophthalmology at various universities, including from 1891 to 1920 at the University of Leipzig , and was particularly concerned with cancers of the eye and its anatomy .

Life

Hubert Sattler

Hubert Sattler was born in Salzburg in 1844 as the son of the landscape painter Hubert Sattler . His grandfather was Johann Michael Sattler , the creator of the Sattler Panorama . He received his doctorate in 1869 after studying medicine , which he completed from 1863 to 1868 at the University of Vienna , and then worked in Vienna under Theodor Billroth and Ferdinand von Arlt as a sub-assistant or assistant. After a study trip that took him to Prague , Wroclaw , Berlin , Utrecht , London and Paris in 1873 , he received his habilitation in ophthalmology at the University of Vienna in 1876 and was appointed full professor at the University of Giessen a year later .

In Giessen he also met his wife, a daughter of the chemist Heinrich Will . Their son, Carl Hubert Sattler, followed his father's interests and later became professor of ophthalmology at the University of Königsberg . In 1879 Hubert Sattler moved to the University of Erlangen and seven years later to the University of Prague . In 1891 he succeeded Ernst Adolf Coccius as professor and director of the eye clinic at the University of Leipzig , where he worked until 1920 and also served as dean of the medical faculty in 1896/1897, 1905/1906 and 1913/1914 . He died in Leipzig in 1928.

Act

Hubert Sattler, who was appointed a secret medical advisor in 1895 and worked scientifically until almost the end of his life, devoted himself primarily to oncological diseases of the eye and the optic nerves as well as to the normal and pathological anatomy of the eye. In addition, he developed a simplified procedure for the surgical treatment of myopia . From 1888 he was co-editor of Albrecht von Graefe's archive for ophthalmology .
