Ernst August von Raison

Ernst August von Raison : (* 3. (Latvian Ernests August fon Rezons) . Jul / 15. August  1807 . Greg in wholesale Autz ; † 5 . Jul / 17th June  1882 . Greg in Neuchatel , Kurland ) was a Baltic German Theologian and local historian .

life and work

Raison came from the noble family of Raison . He was a grandson of the statesman Friedrich Wilhelm von Raison . In 1838 he married Louise Catharina geb. von Böhlendorff (May 18, 1811 in Dorpat - 1878 in Auce).

Ernst August von Raison worked in the field of theology and local history research. There was contact with August Bielenstein in both fields . From 1837 to 1878 he was pastor in Groß-Autz. August Bielenstein completed his practical year with him from June 1851 to June 1852:

"But before the completion of these exams, the father fell ill around Christmas time and died on January 2nd, 1851. Even before the father was buried, he was appointed as his successor by the patroness of the Neu-Autz parish."

After taking the Konsistorialexamina in February and June, Bielenstein became the pastor, later provost A. v. Raison zu Gross-Autz was assigned to the so-called practical year and was only introduced as pastor in Neu-Autz on June 22, 1852 after prior ordination in Mitau .

From 1860 to 1880 Raison was provost of the Doblen diocese . From 1869 to 1872 he was a spiritual member of the Evangelical Lutheran General Consistory .

From 1880 he lived in Luttringen as an emeritus .

Local history

He wrote various articles in the " Latweeschu Awises " as well as research reports. He had been a member of the Latvian Literary Society since at least 1828 .

With A. Bielenstein and others he carried out several archaeological-historical research work. In the report on the stone rings of Groß-Autz-Elisenhof and the Götzenberg on the Sebbersee it says:

“In order to revitalize and promote the archaeological-historical research that has recently stalled in Courland, to fill the gap that we feel in our knowledge of patriotic antiquities and finally to satisfy our own thirst for knowledge, Provost A. v . Raison and the undersigned undertook a whole series of expeditions in the course of the last late summer and autumn, initially in the local Autz area, in order to explore the localities which, through history or legend, seemed somehow remarkable. "

Raison led z. B. on April 14, 1866 together with August Bielenstein , Edmund Carl Julius Krüger , Julius Döring , and other excavations in Tērvete (Hofzumberge) and Svētais kalns (Heiligenberg).

In 1868 Otokar von Herner, owner of the Īle manor, organized excavations of the nearby ancient burial grounds Pokaiņu and Vecpokaiņu. August Bielenstein, Julius Döring and Ernst August von Raison were involved in the excavations.
