Ernst Becker (born February 14, 1929 in Darmstadt ; † November 14, 1984 there ) was a German physicist .

Life

Ernst Becker studied physics from 1947 to 1951 at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Georg-August University of Göttingen . From 1951 to 1954 he was at the Max Planck Institute for Flow Research in Göttingen and in 1954 with its developed at the Max Planck Institute dissertation contribution to the calculation of secondary flows at Göttingen University doctorate .

From 1954 to 1959 he did research at the Aerodynamic Research Institute in Göttingen and then until 1962 at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of the German Research Institute for Aerospace in Freiburg im Breisgau .

In 1960 he completed his habilitation with his habilitation thesis The laminar incompressible boundary layer on a flat wall deformed by running waves for applied mathematics and mechanics at the University of Freiburg i. Br. From 1962 to 1963 he was an associate professor at Yale University and from 1963 a full professor of mechanics at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Ernst Becker was president of the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics in 1974 and was accepted as a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina in 1976 .
