Life

Constam studied mechanical engineering at the ETH Zurich from 1908 to 1912 . On behalf of the Federal Post and Railway Department, he revised the provisional regulations on passenger suspension railways issued in 1926 , which came into force in 1933. As a result of this revision, the association of those interested in suspension railway was founded in 1931. In 1934, he had the world's first iron-on ski lift built by Adolf Bleichert & Co. on Bolgen in Davos . It went into operation on December 23, 1934 and officially opened the following day.

Constam built around 30 t-bar ski lifts in Switzerland and other European winter sports locations. In April 1940 he moved to the United States and founded his own company in Denver at the eastern foot of the Rocky Mountains , where he developed the chairlift (single-cable gondola) from his ski lift. Constam built more than 80 additional ski and chair lifts in the USA. The first chairlift in Switzerland from Trüebsee to the Jochpass was built by his company in 1944.

His older brother was the Corps Commander Herbert Constam . His daughter Annemarie Hubacher-Constam was an architect.
