Ernst Friedrich Versmann (born July 14, 1814 in Tönning ; † August 2, 1873 ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Ernst Friedrich Versmann was born as the son of a doctor on July 14, 1814 in Tönning and trained by private tutors . He then attended the school of scholars in Rendsburg and in 1833 moved to Kiel University to study theology; later he switched to the one in Berlin . He passed his official theological examination in 1838 at Gottorf Castle . He then worked as a tutor until he became a deacon in Itzehoe on August 2, 1840 . After eight years in this position, he was promoted to archdeacon . He had been active as field preacher in the Schleswig-Holstein army since 1850. In this and the following year he was also a member of the state assembly , in 1854 and 1860 he also took part in the state assemblies . When the Danish government in Schleswig-Holstein came to power again at that time, a large number of clergymen were removed from their office. Versmann, however, was able to continue his position. He was even offered on June 13, 1858 to stand for election as the main pastor , which came as a very surprising surprise for him, but he agreed and was finally confirmed. Although he became provost of Münsterdorf in 1857 , he did not actually take up this position until March 22, 1864. After Berlin was sent Versmann 1867, where he the Ministry of Culture should join and Oberkonsistorialrat be, but at the same time he was also provost. On August 2, 1873, after a long illness, he died of a heart attack at the age of 59 .
