Ernst Haag

Ernst Haag (* 6. February 1932 in Trier , † 15 June 2017 ibid) was German theologian and emeritus professor of Theology of the Theological Faculty of Trier .

Life

After studying philosophy and theology in Munich, at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, the École Biblique in Jerusalem and in Trier with the Old Testament scholar Hubert Junker , he received his doctorate in 1963 from the Trier Theological Faculty . Until his habilitation in 1968 he worked as a lecturer there and administered the chair for introductory biblical studies. He then became a full professor and taught until 2000, the year of his retirement, as holder of the chair for Exegesis of the Old Testament .

In addition to his work as a university lecturer, which also included visiting professorships in Saarbrücken , Jerusalem and Weilheim-Bierbronnen , he took over the office of rector during his service at the Trier Theological Faculty and was dean several times. He was president of the working group of German-speaking Catholic Old Testament scholars, member of the scientific advisory board and diocesan representative of the Catholic Biblical Works . As editor he coined the Trier Theological Journal , participated as a specialist advisor in the third edition of the LThK and was a reviewer at the German Research Foundation .

As a priest he was active in the house of Maria Frieden of the Borromäerinnen since the 1960s as a chaplain in the pastoral care of the elderly and sick.
