Ernst Hausmann (resistance fighter)

Ernst Hausmann (* 1909 ; † 1982 ) was a German communist resistance fighter against National Socialism , prisoner in the Buchenwald concentration camp and labor director of the Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" .

Life

Hausmann learned the trade of carpenter after attending primary school . He joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and was involved in the Weimar Republic against the emergence of National Socialism .

After the handover of power to the NSDAP in 1933, he was taken into “ protective custody ” and then sentenced to several years in prison and penitentiary . In 1938 he was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp and assigned to the "prisoner infirmary" work command. He later worked in the carpentry shop and finally became camp senior in the "Renntier" work detail of Kaiseroda near Bad Salzungen . When he returned to the main camp in 1943, he took part in setting up an arms store in the coal cellar under the functional barracks. He also helped other inmates. He smuggled a Lenin pamphlet from the external command into the camp.

When the Nazi regime was eliminated, he also supported on the politics of memory work of the now established national memorial Buchenwald . In 1958 he reported on his prisoner resistance under the heading "Lenin's Works in Buchenwald".

Professionally, Hausmann was Labor Director at the Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" .

Honor

  • During the GDR era, the 28th POS in Halle-Neustadt was named after Hausmann. In 1987 the special school for mathematics, science and technology was established in the premises of the former POS, Ernst Hausmann , which was named after Georg Cantor in 1991 .
