profile
The Georg-Cantor-Gymnasium has a mathematical-scientific-technical profile and is one of the few schools in Saxony-Anhalt with a focus on content. As part of the promotion of gifted students, the Georg-Cantor-Gymnasium coordinates and organizes correspondence circles for numerous subjects and age groups.
mathematics
The math profile is shown in additional weekly lessons. In addition to the normal curriculum, a number of additives are taught that can be queried in normal oral performance surveys. For example, the pupils get an insight into the set theory of the school's namesake.
Natural sciences
The scientific profile is shown in additional weekly lessons. In addition, from the 7th grade onwards, computer science is taught, which can also be taken as a profile course when entering the course phase. Since 2005, it has been the only grammar school in Saxony-Anhalt (with the exception of the Hugo Junkers grammar school in Dessau) that has been able to complete its written Abitur in computer science at the Georg-Cantor-Gymnasium . In numerous working groups and cooperations with various companies in the region and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg , schoolchildren can test and develop their interests and skills. After the end of classes, lectures on scientific topics are held regularly. Furthermore, there are fixed scientific and ecological internships, in grade 10 there is the possibility to write a scientific-practical annual paper.
Training in foreign languages
From the seventh grade onwards, in addition to English, you learn French or Latin as a second foreign language , which you can take up to the Abitur exam, but must take at least by the end of grade 10. From the 9th grade onwards, Spanish is offered as a third foreign language .
Special subjects
One of the special features of the Georg-Cantor-Gymnasium is that astronomy lessons are given in the 8th grade . Continuing and taking the subject in secondary level 2 is unfortunately excluded. From the 8th grade onwards, so-called specialist courses (special support in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics) take place as cross-class lessons.
