Ernst Hildebrand (musician)

Ernst Hildebrand ( pseudonym Brandeau ; * February 23, 1918 in Hagen ; † July 31, 1986 in Neusatz ) was a German composer and musician .

Life

At the age of 6 he received violin and piano lessons. From 1934 to 1937 he received instruction in oboe , cor anglais , piano and music theory at the music academy in Lüdenscheid . His first attempts at instrumentation and composition were waltzes, marches and interlude fantasies for a music publisher. In 1941 he began his studies at the State University for Music in Berlin in composition and conducting a . a. with Hugo Distler , Hermann Grabner , Gemeindl, Clemens Schmalstich and Schmidt. During his studies he also worked as an oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic, in the radio orchestra and as a pianist in the small radio entertainment orchestra. In 1944 he graduated as a conductor and Kapellmeister .

His first larger composition for wind orchestra also comes from 1944. Variations on the song "Wohlauf Kameraden auf Pferd ..." was recorded for the radio with the Air Force Music Corps of the Wehrmacht under the direction of Prof. Haase in February 1944. After the war (1946) he became a theater conductor in Düsseldorf . From 1947 to 1950 he was theater music director in Wuppertal . That was also the time when his music for Macbeth and for ballets, operettas and musicals was written. In 1950 and 1951 he was Kapellmeister at the City Theater in Flensburg . At the same time he was choirmaster at the municipal theater in Oberhausen during the summer months . 1955 to 1959 he was a composer for various radio stations. In 1956 and 1957 he made various recordings for the Hessischer Rundfunk as a choir director in Wiesbaden. With his works he has received several prizes and awards.
