Ernst Jerusalem

Ernst Traugott Jerusalem (born May 15, 1845 in Leipzig , † October 2, 1900 in Schreiberhau ) was a German journalist , writer and politician .

Life

Born as the son of a citizen, city councilor and later district judge, Jerusalem studied philosophy , mathematics and natural sciences in Leipzig after attending the St. Thomae Gymnasium in Leipzig. During his studies he became a member of the Arminia Leipzig fraternity in 1864 . In 1865 he made long trips through North and South America . After his return he was unable to continue his studies due to illness and became a writer and journalist. From 1873 he worked as an editor at the Allgemeine Zeitung in Hildesheim and between 1874 and 1879 he was editor at the Hessische Morgenzeitung in Kassel . From 1879 to 1883 he was secretary of the Reich Association of the Organization of the National Liberal Party in Leipzig . He resumed his studies and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . From 1884 to 1887 he was General Secretary of the National Liberal Party in Berlin . In 1894 he became editor in Schreiberhau, in 1895 in Sangerhausen . For many years he was active as a writer.

He was married to Alida Klara von Safft, daughter of Julius von Safft . His son was Peter Benedix .
