Ernst Johann Friedrich Mantzel (the younger)

Ernst Johann Friedrich Mantzel , called the Younger (born January 7, 1748 in Rostock , † November 6, 1806 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and state syndic of the Mecklenburg knighthood .

Life

Ernst Johann Friedrich Mantzel came from a large scholarly family of theologians and lawyers who had lived in Mecklenburg since the end of the 16th century . He was a son of (Johann) Heinrich Mantzel (1723–1762), who worked as a master's degree at the University of Rostock and as a pastor at the Rostock Petrikirche . He studied law in Bützow and Göttingen . In 1767 he defended his well-known dissertation De extraneis in jure Mecklenburgico errantibus as a respondent chaired by his grandfather of the same name, Ernst Johann Friedrich Mantzel (the Elder) . Under Adolph Friedrich Trendelenburg , he received his doctorate in 1772 in Bützow. jur. He then worked in Rostock as a lawyer and procurator at the Mecklenburg Justice Chancellery and as procurator at the consistory. From the Mecklenburg knights and landscape, the Estates , it was 1789 Mecklenburg-Schwerin rule country counsel chosen and later received character as Herzoglich Mecklenburg-Schwerin shear Councilor.

He has dealt with issues of particular constitutional law on several occasions, probably at the instigation of his class function . The best known is his Neue Mecklenburgische Staats-Kanzley , which appeared in three parts between 1791 and 1798. It was the continuation of the Mecklenburg State Chancellery of Baron Gottfried Rudolf von Ditmar from 1757.

In the last years of his life he lived as a private citizen in Berlin, where he died of a mental illness. His successor was Detlev Friedrich Dreves .
