Ernst Kößlinger

Ernst Kößlinger (born May 16, 1926 in Munich , lives in Martinsried near Munich) is a Munich-based graphic artist and graphic designer .

Life

After an apprenticeship as process engraver Kößlinger began training as a commercial artist at the Master School of German printers in Munich with Edward Ege and Georg Trump . After military service and imprisonment from 1943 to 1945, he continued his training from 1946 to 1949. From 1949 to 1958 he worked as a freelance graphic designer in Munich and then taught at the Academy for the Graphics Industry until 1971 . From 1971 to 1990 he was professor of graphic design at the Munich University of Applied Sciences .

Ernst Kößlinger is a longstanding member and temporary chairman of the Association for Original Etching .

Ernst Kößlinger created posters for cultural events (for example: Munich City Museum ), for tourism and industry. He designed the new annual poster for the Munich Oktoberfest several times . Since 1969, increasingly after his retirement, Kößlinger has participated in over a hundred design competitions for German special postage stamps . Over thirty designs prevailed.

In addition, he works as a freelance graphic artist. He prefers landscape paintings inspired by numerous trips through Europe using the techniques of etching , woodcut and linocut . While still a student he drew vedutas of the destroyed Munich, some of which were published in the magazine Der Simpl . Later on, too, he repeatedly created Munich vedutas in different printing techniques, including for the Munich Tourist Office.
