Live and act

Ernst Kiel completed an apprenticeship as a marine engineer from 1941 to 1944 . From 1945 to 1947 he worked as a fitter at AEG . Then he began studying pedagogy for vocational schools, which lasted until 1949. That year he went to school. He achieved the title of senior director of studies . His four children were born between 1952 and 1954.

Kiel was also involved in local politics, from 1969 to 1984 he was a member until 1973 Chairman of the CDU - council faction .

Kiel was involved in the Federal Association of Teachers at Vocational Schools (BLBS) as its chairman and thus recommended himself as vice-president of the German Teachers' Association (DL), which was founded shortly before in 1969. In 1984 he moved up and was President of the DL until 1987. During his presidency the then serious unemployment of young teachers fell, which he tried to counteract by setting up a corresponding working group within the association.

His special commitment was international work and maintaining contacts. From 1981 to 1985 he was Vice President and from 1985 to 1989 President of the Fédération Internationale des Professeurs de l'Enseignement Secondaire Officiel (FIPESO). "There he represented" - as the DL's obituary says - "in a successful mixture of straightforwardness and diplomatic skill, the interests of the teaching staff of general and vocational colleges."

In 1979 Kiel received the Federal Cross of Merit . On June 17, 1989, the German Teachers Association honored the services of Velbert- based Ernst Kiel to the reputation of the German Teachers Association at national and international level with the appointment of honorary president.
