Ernst Ludwig von Gemmingen (politician, 1818)

Ernst Ludwig von Gemmingen-Guttenberg Bonfeld (* 19th August 1818 in Stuttgart , † 27. December 1880 in Karlsruhe ) was Councilor in Stuttgart and managed later to Dammhof Kraichgau. From 1851 to 1855 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Württemberg Land estates , and in 1875/76 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly .

Life

He comes from the 2nd branch (Bonfeld) of the II. Line (Gemmingen and Guttenberg) of the barons of Gemmingen and was a son of the Württemberg stud director Philipp Albrecht von Gemmingen (1782-1852) from his first marriage to the Heilbronn industrialist Emilie von Rauch ( 1795-1821). The family had close ties to the Württemberg court. The father's second wife was the lady-in-waiting of the Württemberg Queen, his sister Luise was the wife of the Württemberg Minister Karl von Waechter-Spittler . A career in the Württemberg service was also planned for Ernst Ludwig and his brothers.

He studied law in Tübingen and Berlin from 1835 to 1839 , probably at the same time as his brother Moriz (1817–1883). The much younger brother Wilhelm (1827–1920) followed her path a few years later. In 1843 Ernst Ludwig became senior actuary in Kirchheim unter Teck , then secretary in the secret cabinet of the King of Württemberg. From 1846 he was assessor at the district government in Ellwangen and in 1851 a councilor at the upper government in Stuttgart. Moriz had meanwhile become district court president, sister Luise married the Württemberg minister Karl von Waechter-Spittler , brother Wilhelm became consistorial president of the Württemberg Evangelical church.

From 1851 to 1856 Ernst Ludwig von Gemmingen was a knightly member of the second chamber of the Württemberg state estates, his brother Moriz succeeded him in this mandate until 1883. In 1856 Ernst Ludwig moved to the Grand Duchy of Baden on the Dammhof , which had been in the family's possession since the 14th century. In 1875/76 he belonged to the I. Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly . In 1879 he published a pamphlet on agriculture and Germany's national economic policy .
