Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Freiherr von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (born October 12, 1827 in Stuttgart ; † January 6, 1920 ibid) was a German lawyer and president of the consistory of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Life and work

Wilhelm came from the 2nd branch (Bonfeld) of the II line (Gemmingen and Guttenberg) of the Barons of Gemmingen . He was the third son of Philipp Albrecht von Gemmingen (1782-1852) from his second marriage to Karoline von Lützow (1792-1853). After leaving school, he began studying law at the University of Tübingen .

From 1865 he was a legal advisor in Esslingen am Neckar , from 1868 a district judge in Stuttgart and in 1878 he became a higher regional judge in Stuttgart. In 1886 von Gemmingen was appointed President of the Consistory in Württemberg. He was thus one of the highest representatives of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. He held this office until he retired in 1905. During his tenure, von Gemmingen represented the regional church at the conferences of the Protestant church authorities in Eisenach . He was also a member of the German Evangelical Church Committee in Berlin.

Von Gemmingen was also a member of the Württemberg regional synod several times . In the 1st and 2nd Synods he was a member of the Synodal Committee. During the III. He resigned his synod from office in 1886 when he became president of the consistory.

Member of the state parliament

From 1862 to 1906 von Gemmingen was a member of the Württemberg Chamber of Deputies as a representative of the knighthood of the Neckar District .

Honorary positions

In addition to his full-time work in the consistory, von Gemmingen also held several honorary positions. Among other things, he was a parish councilor in the Hospital Church. He was also a co-founder of the Swabian section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club , of which he was 1st Chairman from 1872 to 1876.

family

From 1860 he was married to Eugenie Countess von Zeppelin (1836–1911), a sister of the well-known Count Zeppelin . The marriage had three children:

  • Max Ferdinand Ludwig (1862-1924)
  • Amélie (1865–1938), remained unmarried and ran her brother Max's household in Friedrichshafen
