Karl von Gemmingen (1861–1953)

Karl Moritz Friedrich von Gemmingen-Guttenberg (born June 12, 1861 in Eßlingen , † August 19, 1953 in Boll ) was a Württemberg chamberlain and real councilor and honorary commander of the Order of St. John .

Life

He came from the 2nd branch (Bonfeld) of the II. Line (Gemmingen and Guttenberg) of the Barons of Gemmingen and was the first son of the Württemberg judiciary and later Consistorial President Wilhelm von Gemmingen (1827-1920) and Eugenie Countess von Zeppelin (1836– 1911), a sister of the well-known Count Zeppelin .

Gemmingen graduated from high school in Ulm , then studied law and worked in the civil service from 1889. Until 1892 he was at the local court in Öhringen and then came to the Württemberg Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where he was secret legation councilor . In 1893 he was cabinet secretary to King Wilhelm II , in 1900 he was promoted to cabinet chief, in 1906 he was promoted to State Council with the title of Excellency. In the First World War he was an officer, after the end of the war he retired. He spent his retired years in different places. During the Second World War he was bombed out in Stuttgart , so that he finally came to Bad Boll via Kirchheim / Teck, where he died very old in 1953.

His first marriage was to Hermine von Landbeck (1865-1931) and one year after her death, he married Helene Buchhold (1882-1963). There are three offspring from the first marriage:

  • Joachim Eberhard (1893–1967) ⚭ Marianne von Palm (1889–1977, closed 1930), Johanne Petershagen (1901–2001)
