Ernst Münch (forest scientist)

Ernst Münch (born November 26, 1876 in Ruchheim , today a district of Ludwigshafen am Rhein , † October 9, 1946 in Lechbruck am See ) was a German forest scientist and botanist .

Life

Münch was the older brother of the later Palatinate dialect poet Paul Münch (1879–1951) and the father of the concentration camp doctor Hans Münch . He studied forest sciences at the Aschaffenburg Forestry University and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1896 he became active in the Corps Hubertia Munich .

In 1904 he became an assistant to Carl von Tubeuf at the Freising Forest Research Institute . The LMU received his doctorate in 1906 as Dr. phil. From 1910 he worked at the government forest office in Speyer . In 1921 he became a full professor of forest botany at the Tharandt Forest University , and in 1933 at the University of Munich .

Münch's fields of work included plant physiology , dendrology and phytopathology . Outstanding are his work on phloem transport, where he set up the pressure flow theory .
