Ernst Pfeil (born May 12, 1850 in Kötzschau ; † January 6, 1919 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Protestant pastor and historian of the Unstrut region.

Ernst Pfeil was a son of pastor Franz Oskar Pfeil, who also had local history interests. From 1863 to 1869 he attended the Pforta State School . At Easter 1869 he began to study theology at the University of Leipzig , which he finished in Halle (Saale) . After successful exams, he worked as a private tutor and assistant preacher in Kötzschau until he was given the pastor's post in Wennungen on March 16, 1879 , which he held until his death.

In his office he was characterized by conscientiousness and diligence, in his studies and research thoroughness and acumen. In the leisure that his office allowed, he used the last decades of his life for research on local history, a large number of which were published in the Naumburger Tageblatt. His works are still of regional importance today.
